Ipod Touch 8GB!!?

I'm getting the iPdod Touch for Christmas, the 8GB model. I wnat the 16GB model, though I already have a 30GB iPod Video. My dad says I should just be content with the fact that I'm getting one in the first place. Is he right? Or is there a way to convince him the 16GB is better. He says that i can use the 30GB for the other songs I have, but it seems eveyone is getting the 16GB.
