Where do the atoms go?
Like it was said before, the ethanol reacted with oxygen in a combustion reaction releasing CO2 and H2O both gases. That's why the liquid ethanol disappeared. The ethanol atoms formed new molecules (CO2 and H2O) and went to the air. I think that this is a correct answer to your question.
