Tensile and compressive bending stresses on a beam?

If you will draw the shear and moment diagram for the beam, you will be able to determine the location and the value of the maximum bending moment. Once you have that, calculate the beam inertia for the cross-section provided, and then the bending stress is just Moment * outer fiber distance / Inertia.
