Meaning of this poem?...?

The last part of it may be describing what he feels when he escaped religion. as though he has risen above it. Transcended daily routines and now elevated he feels more. Fiery pion, Icy coldness. He contemplates returning. But I'm not certain about any of this. Good luck with your ysis.
